The repeal of net neutrality, Obama-era internet protection rules, is set to take effect today and advocates for an “open internet” are expected to stage protests online. Net neutrality is the principle that internet service providers (ISPs) treat all content equally and not give preference to some digital content providers. Consumers worry that the FCC’s new rule deregulating ISPs could allow companies to “throttle” or prioritize different traffic across the internet. Senate Democrats, joined by three Republicans, voted in May to save the net neutrality rules, but the House never took action. What do the changes mean for you?
