(Louisville, KY) - Erika Shields is the new chief of Louisville Metro Police. She was sworn in during a ceremony at Metro Hall Tuesday morning.
Shields takes over the department in the wake of protests over the police shooting death of Breonna Taylor. She resigned as chief of the Atlanta PD following last year's police shooting of Rayshard Brooks.
Many believe Shields faces immediate challenges due to a lack of officer moral, officer retention and distrust of the department within the community.
