(Frankfort, KY) - Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is calling COVID-19 vaccinations distributed by a Louisville Walgreens to the general public a mistake.
A spokesperson for the company says the distribution was made because Pfizer's vaccine can only be refrigerated for five days and they did not want doses to go to waste.
Officials say excess doses were offered to local first responders, then to Walgreens pharmacy and store team members and residents of the community over the weekend.
Governor Beshear said Monday he doesn't think the use of the vaccine was intentional. He said "in an undertaking this massive, mistakes are going to happen."
