JCPS Board Member Accused Of Making Racially Insensitive Comment

(Jefferson Co., KY) - There are calls for a member of the Jefferson County Schools board to resign after making what some say was a racially insensitive remark.

The comment came during Tuesday night's meeting as members discussed why black students with special needs are disproportionately punished compared to students of other races.

District 5 board member Linda Duncan said "If we said our African Americans are only 37 percent of the population, so therefore our basketball team should only be 37 percent of the population."

She says the comment was meant to show how the issue goes beyond numbers.
