Judge Sides With Beshear In State Education Board Reorganization

(Frankfort, KY) - A Franklin County judge is siding with Governor Andy Beshear in his reorganization of the State Board of Education.

The judge denied a motion Wednesday filed by previously appointed members who were seeking an injunction to stop the reorganization.

Beshear restructured the board on his first day in office, appointing new members he says are committed to making schools better.

The board members who were removed filed a lawsuit, saying the governor's actions were beyond his authority.

The judge's decision in favor of the governor is expected to be appealed.

Meeting Planned To Discuss Firing Of Education Commissioner

(Louisville, KY) - The Kentucky Board of Education is getting together today to discuss firing Education Commissioner Wayne Lewis.

The newly-reconstructed board has an executive session scheduled that could lead to Lewis' dismissal.

The commissioner has been criticized by Governor Andy Beshear in the past for not advocating for public education.
