State to Cite Distillery for Bourbon Spill

BARDSTOWN, Ky. -- State environment officials are citing a company that owns the Bardstown distillery where a bourbon warehouse collapsed last week.

Sazerac will be cited for failing to report the incident to state officials in a timely manner and for polluting the water.

The collapse at the Barton 1792 warehouse sent 9,000 barrels crashing to the ground.  Bourbon spilled into two nearby creeks.   John Mura, a spokesman for the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, says the number of fish killed by the whiskey is "probably in the thousands."

Mura says Sazerac did respond quickly and aggressively to the incident.
