Mayor Fischer Declares Flood Emergency

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Mayor Fischer is declaring an emergency as the Ohio River spills over its banks.

Fischer is seeking federal assistance for flood clean-up.      He says the city will exceed the $2.8 million threshold needed for reimbursement.

The city is working on a debris removal plan.    Once the floodwaters recede, residents will be able to drop-off debris at six different locations.

Health officials are warning of the dangers of floodwaters, including chemical and biological hazards.   They're encouraging people to wear protective equipment when cleaning homes and businesses.
