LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The first flood gates are going up ahead of this weekend's forecast crest of the Ohio River.
MSD says it will install the flood gates at 10th and 27th Streets at first light Friday morning in preparation for a crest of 30 feet, seven feet above flood stage on Sunday.
Along with the flood wall installation, MSD says 12 flood pumping stations are running now with all 16 to be running this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, a 30 foot crest will completely close the Third Street ramp from I-64 and parts of Utica, Indiana will be underwater.
MSD says they are actively monitoring the river levels and say they are prepared to take action if a higher crest forecast is issued.
