Kentucky House Committee Advances Gang Bill

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- A bill on its was to the Kentucky House of Representatives gets a thumbs up from LMPD.

House Bill 169 would expand the definition of a gang, stiffen penalties for crimes committed by gang members and encourage local law enforcement agencies to begin keeping databases on gangs.

LMPD Assistant Chief Robert Schroeder supports the bill, saying it updates Kentucky's gang laws.

Critics worry is casts too broad a shadow and will hurt innocent people.

The bill passed a House committee and now goes to the full House for approval.
