Metro Council Members Asking General Assembly For Help

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Some Metro Council members want Frankfort to give them more power to stop gun violence.

At an event marking National Gun Violence Awareness Day, Metro Councilman Brandon Coan made a plea to the General Assembly to remove a prohibition on local gun control.

Coan's plea comes a day after Governor Bevin met with community leaders to discuss his plan to end the violence, suggesting people walk a block every week for a year and pray for the people there.

Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton says Louisville is in a crisis and that gun problem isn't getting any better.

In honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, the Big Four Bridge and the City Hall clock tower will be lit in orange tonight.
