FRANKFORT, Ky. -- A coal miner is killed in southeastern Kentucky.
It happened early Thursday at a Whitley County mine owned by Green Hill Mining company.
33-year-old Joseph Partin was killed when a 15-foot section of highwall fell on him. The accident happened above ground.
The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet says the mine was last inspected on December 15, 2016, and a safety initiative was held at the mine on January 9, 2017. Neither visit turned up unsafe conditions.
It's the second mining death in Kentucky this year.
