INDIANAPOLIS - SEC Player of the Year Malik Monk blocked Markis McDuffie's potential game-winning shot and then sank two free throws with 10.6 seconds left to send second-seeded Kentucky past 10th-seeded Wichita State in an NCAA South Regional game in Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats (31-5) led 58-51 with 4:06 left when freshman De'Aaron Fox made a steal near midcourt and drove for a dunk, but the Shockers (31-5) rallied, pulling within 63-62 on freshman Landry Shamet's 3-pointer with 55.7 seconds left.
The victory extended Kentucky's winning streak to 13 and snapped Wichita State's 16-game winning streak.
Kentucky advances to play UCLA or Cincinnati in the Sweet Sixteen in Memphis, Tenn. Monk and Fox each scored 14 points and freshman Bam Adebayo added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Kentucky.
Shamet led Wichita State with 20 points.
