A pedestrian bridge that was under construction collapsed onto a busy Miami highway Thursday, crushing at least eight vehicles under massive slabs of concrete and steel and killing multiple people, authorities said.  Search-and-rescue crews drilled holes into the debris and used dogs to look for survivors. The bridge spanning a busy road had just been installed Saturday and was touted as an "engineering feat," a model for the future with “safety at the forefront.”

Russia is preparing retaliatory measures against the U.K. over its decision to expel 23 Russian diplomats, the Kremlin said today, promising they would “not be long in coming.” “They are being formulated in the foreign ministry and in other bodies,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in a briefing call, adding that president Vladimir Putin will make the final decision.  The U.K. government expelled the diplomats, as part of a broader set of punitive measures directed against Russia over the poisoning of former Russian intelligence agent Sergey Skripal and his daughter in southern England last week. U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May also announced she was cutting all top-level ties with Russia and that the royal family would skip the soccer World Cup hosted there this summer.
