These days, the typical bomb weighs anywhere from 250 to 2,000 pounds.  On Thursday, the Pentagon announced that it had dropped the GBU-43, considered the “mother of all bombs” at 22,000 pounds, on ISIS forces operating in Afghanistan.  The commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Gen. John Nicholson, said it was the right munition to use because of ISIS’ use of roadside bombs, bunkers, and tunnels.  It was the first time this bomb has been used in combat.  And yes, there is a bigger one in the non-nuclear arsenal.  The 30,000 pound GBU-57, which would result in an even larger crater, has only been used in test circumstances.  Why now?  Tony takes a look.
