FRANKFORT, Ky. - Governor Andy Beshear is calling Kentucky lawmakers into special session next week to deal with rising COVID-19 cases in the state.
The legislature will convene at 10 a.m. ET Tuesday, September 7th. The special session will last about five days.
The move comes after the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled in favor of the legislature in limiting the governor's emergency powers.
Beshear is asking lawmakers to extend the state of emergency he declared at the start of the pandemic.
He's asking the legislature to allow him to require masking, saying "We need it everywhere."
The governor also wants lawmakers to allow schools more flexibility to use virtual instruction days (NTI).
