Kentucky Democratic lawmakers are asking federal representatives to allow refugees from Afghanistan to make the state their home.

State House and Senate Democratic floor leaders Joni Jenkins and Morgan McGarvey say they'll ask the state's congressional delegation and Governor Andy Beshear to allow refugees to stay in Kentucky permanently.

Jenkins and Morgan say they've received support from Louisville-area Congressman John Yarmuth.

Thousands of Afghans have been evacuated from the Asian nation since its government fell to the Taliban earlier this month.
