Kentucky Unemployment System Shutting Down Temporarily To Combat Fraud

FRANKFORT, Ky. - The state is shutting down its unemployment insurance system because of fraud.

General counsel Amy Cubbage says the system will be shut down for four days - Friday through Monday - because of recent activity involving cyber criminals who are gaining access to accounts by guessing the PIN numbers through computer software.

Officials will be working on beefing up security during the downtime.

During the shutdown, Kentuckians cannot file new claims or request benefits. The internal systems will remain operational, and the state will continue to process claims. Claims will be backdated so no benefits will be lost.
