LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- The new owner of Kentucky Kingdom is already planning enhancements to the amusement park in Louisville.
Herschend Family Entertainment has purchased a majority ownership of the park from a group that was led by local businessman Ed Hart.
Herschend is a family-owned Georgia-based company that operates Dollywood in Tennessee, Newport Aquarium in northern Kentucky and other properties.
Craig Ross, president of Dollywood, will serve as interim general manager of Kentucky Kingdom.
Ross says Herschend plans to expand the season into the fall and holidays. The park will also host shows, festivals and themed events.
