LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has announced the opening of free federal and state income tax preparation for eligible residents.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and AARP Tax Aide programs offer free services via online or at select drop-off sites.
The services are available to individuals and families who earned less than $66,000 last year. Volunteers will also help determine if residents are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Last year the free services processed nearly 13,000 returns.
February 12th is the first official day for filing tax returns.
