Recovering Addict Thanks UofL ER Staff For Saving His Life

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- It was an emotional and inspiring Zoom meeting as a recovering drug addict thanks doctors at UofL Hospital for saving his life.

Michael Standiford overdosed more times than he can remember, was shot in the stomach and even had his heart stop a few times.  Each time, the emergency room team at UofL saved his life.

Standiford spoke to ER physician Dr. Martin Huecker, thanking him and the staff. "I had given up. But they never did, and thank God for that," Standiford said.

The 46-year-old Jeffersonville native is now sober and working on a psychology degree.  He wants to become a counselor so he can help others like him.
