Mayor Fischer Names New Interim LMPD Chief

(Louisville, KY) - There's a new interim chief of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Former deputy chief of police Yvette Gentry will take over for Interim Chief Rob Schroeder. On Monday, Mayor Greg Fischer announced Schroeder's retirement, which will be effective at the end of the month.

Schroeder was named interim chief after Steve Conrad was fired on June 1st.

A new LMPD chief is expected to be named by the end of the year. Mayor Greg Fischer says more than 20 people applied for the permanent position prior to the August 31st deadline.

The search for the next LMPD chief is being done by the Washington, DC-based Police Executive Research Forum.  It's known for helping other cities reduce police use of force and its work on community policing.
