LMPD Says McAtee Fired Gun Before Being Shot

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- Louisville Metro Police say video surveillance shows David McAtee firing a gun before he was fatally shot by officers and national guardsmen.

McAtee was killed Sunday night as police and guardsmen were trying to clear a large crowd near McAtee's barbecue business at 26th and Broadway.

The surveillance video is from inside and outside McAtee's business, and it contains no audio.

Major Paul Humphrey says the video shows McAtee appearing to fire at officers, who took cover and returned fire.

LMPD officers did not activate their body cameras during the incident.  Mayor Greg Fischer fired Police Chief Steve Conrad hours after McAtee's death.
