Man Shot, Killed As Crowd Cleared In Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A man is dead after overnight shooting involving police and members of the National Guard.

Loved ones say David McActee was killed in the parking lot of Dino's Food Mart on 26th and Broadway streets early Monday morning. Officers and guardsmen were clearing the lot of what police described as a large group of people.

LMPD Chief Steve Conrad says while clearing the lot, someone opened fire on law enforcement and both LMPD and the National Guard returned fire, killing a man. It is not clear at this point if the man killed was the one who fired the initial shots or not.

The shooting came hours after 40 people were arrested in downtown Louisville where a fourth night of protests reacting to the shooting death of Breonna Taylor escalated.

LMPD Col. LaVita Chavous says they spotted at least two leaf blowers in the crowd they believed were going to be used to spay chemicals at officers.
