JCPS Superintendent Calls For Property Tax Rate Increase

(Louisville, KY) - The superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools wants to increase property taxes.

During the annual State of the District address Wednesday, Dr. Marty Pollio said the increase is needed for investments that will allow JCPS to change its controversial busing policy.

He said he wants to let more families decide whether their kids will go to school in their neighborhood, or be bused to another school.

Pollio says a five-cent property tax rate increase would be used to build new schools in west Louisville and elsewhere in the city.
