(Louisville, KY) - A new starting gate will be used during this year's Kentucky Derby.
Churchill Downs has announced a new 20-horse gate is being built that will exclusively be used during the Run for the Roses.
A 14-position starting gate, along with a six-position auxiliary gate had been used in the Derby 54 times, including each of the last 22 years.
The gate being built by an Australian company will ensure a uniform start.
