Newly Appointed State Education Board Forces Out Education Commissioner

(Frankfort, KY) - Kentucky Education Commissioner is leaving his position after being forced out by the newly appointed state Board of Education.

Wayne Lewis resigned Thursday and is immediately vacating his role leading the state's K-12 school system.

The new board accepted his resignation and acknowledged it didn't have just cause to terminate him.

The board's authority is facing a legal challenge by former members.
