Kentucky Lawmaker Drafting Bill Allowing College Athletes Compensation

Mississippi v Xavier

(Frankfort, KY) - A Kentucky lawmaker is drafting a bill that would allow college student-athletes to receive compensation for their names, images, and likenesses.

State Senator Morgan McGarvey's bill is modeled after the Fair Pay to Play Act signed into law Monday in California.

The bill would make it illegal for colleges to prevent an athlete from profiting by selling the rights to their name, image, or likeness to a third party.

Florida and South Carolina are considering similar legislation.
