(Louisville, KY) - The co-founder and former CEO of Humana has died. David Jones was 88.
Jones transformed the health care industry when he and Wendell Cherry built Humana from a nursing home chain to one of the world's largest hospital and insurance companies.
Humana's current President and CEO, Bruce Broussard, released a statement Wednesday saying it's a sad day for him personally and for the Humana team.
Broussard says in his extraordinary lifetime, David Jones changed the lives of so many people.
Jones graduated from Male High School in Louisville and Yale Law School. He joined the firm of Wyatt Tarrant and Combs, where he met Wendell Cherry. Together, they founded Humana in 1961.
Jones' wife of 65 years, Betty, died in August.
