NewsRadio 840 WHAS Town Hall Focusing On JCPS

Student assignment, aging facilities, school resource officers and the district's plans to improve student outcomes were among the topics discussed Thursday night during the NewsRadio 840 WHAS Town Hall focusing on Jefferson County Public Schools.

JCPS Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio, Asst. Superintendent for High Schools Christy Rogers and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Carmen Coleman joined Leland Conway, Dave Jennings, Terry Meiners, Tony Vanetti and Dwight Witten for the two hour discussion at the Male High School Auditorium.

The first segment was an overview of recent developments within the district. Dr. Pollio was asked about possible tax increases to boost revenue for the district to help pay for aging facilities. News broke before the show that Ballard High School would have to move its football games from their home stadium due to the deteriorating stands being deemed unsafe. The student assignment plan for JCPS was also reviewed.

Rogers and Dr. Coleman joined the program in the next two segments to highlight the district's "Backpack of Success Skills" and the "Academies of Louisville" and how these initiatives are preparing students for life after public school. The final segment was an open forum and recap of the town hall.
