Special Kentucky Legislative Session To Address Pension Relief Begins

Kentucky Capitol

(Frankfort, KY) - A special session of the Kentucky General Assembly will get underway Friday morning.

The Assembly will solely be addressing problems with the state's pension system.

Governor Matt Bevin's proclamation declaring the special session calls for a specific employer contribution that would be retroactive to July 1st.

It also would create a one-time window for regional universities, health departments, and similar agencies to opt out of the Kentucky Employees Retirement System by June 30th, 2020.

Democratic lawmakers have also offered a plan, but the governor's office dismissed it.
