Sen. McConnell Comments On Nike Shoe Controversy

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) leaves the Senate Chamber on Capitol Hill, January 24, 2019 at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.

(Lexington, KY) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is weighing in on a controversy at Nike.

While in Lexington visiting a hemp growing facility Tuesday, McConnell said the shoemaker should move forward with a plan to release sneakers featuring the Betsy Ross flag, saying he would place the first order.

Nike is pulling the shoes after former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick told the company he and others found the symbol offensive. Kaepernick cited its connection to slavery.
