Maximum Security Will Not Run In Preakness

145th Kentucky Derby

(Louisville, KY) - Maximum Security is not going to participate in the second leg of the Triple Crown. Owner Gary West made the announcement Monday morning on NBC's Today Show.

He says because of Maximum Security having been disqualified after finishing first in the Kentucky Derby, there is no longer a chance to take the Crown.

West says there is no reason to push his horse to compete in the Preakness Stakes in just two weeks from now in Maryland.

West also confirmed he will be contesting the Kentucky Derby disqualification.

It is still unclear whether the Derby's declared winner Country House will run in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Racecourse.
