Former Indiana Senator Richard Lugar Dies At 87

(Washington, DC) - Former Indiana Senator Richard Lugar has died. 

In a statement, his family said Lugar died early Sunday morning from complications of a rare neurological disorder. 

He is survived by his wife and four sons. 

The 87-year-old served as the mayor of Indianapolis from 1968 to 1975 before moving on to the Senate from 1977 to 2013. 

Lugar then served as president of the Lugar Center since 2013.
