Derby Field Begins To Take Shape

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The field for the 145th Kentucky Derby is taking shape with the running of three major preps this weekend.

Vekoma punched his ticket to Louisville with a win in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland. He’s trained by George Weaver.

Trainer Bob Baffert and jockey Mike Smith teamed up to win the Santa Anita Derby with Roadster. Another Baffert-trained colt, juvenile champion Game Winner, finished second.

Tacitus won the Wood Memorial in New York. Trained by Bill Mott, Tacitus sits atop the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard.

The Arkansas Derby will be run next weekend.

The Run for the Roses is May 4th. The field is limited to 20 horses.
