Arrest Made After Hindu Temple Vandalized

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A tip leads LMPD to the teen suspected of vandalizing a Hindu temple in Buechel.

Detectives say they've arrested a 17 year old boy who they allege broke into the Swaminarayan Temple on Bardstown Road earlier this week and painted anti-Hindu messages on the walls.

Investigators aren't clear on the teen's motive, only saying he's familiar with the area and has no ties to the temple.

Sgt. Russell Montfort says they can't charge the teen with a hate crime, adding it’s a decision for the prosecution to make at a later time.

A community cleanup is planned at the temple for 10 Saturday morning. Temple officials are asking if you come to bring buckets and long-handled paint rollers.
