MSD Preparing to Fire Worker Involved in Deadly Crash

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- MSD is preparing for fire a worker involved in a crash that killed a Louisville Metro Police officer.

MSD had initially retained legal counsel for Roger Burdette, who is in jail facing murder and DUI charges.

Police say Burdette crashed his MSD truck into a police cruiser on I-64 in downtown Louisville, killing Detective Deidre Mengedoht.

In a statement, MSD Executive Director Tony Parrott says the agency decided not to pay for Burdette's defense after the facts of the case came out.       Parrott says the initial decision upset many people and he apologized for that.

MSD has begun the process of firing Burdette, who has been on unpaid status since being arrested.
