NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Indiana wildlife biologists have confirmed a black bear was hit by a car on Interstate 64 in the New Albany area Sunday night.
The injured bear wandered into heavy brush after the accident. A paw print found near the scene is definitive proof that it was a black bear, according to mammalogist Brad Westrich.
It's unusual for a bear to be hit on an Indiana roadway, Westrich said. But bear sightings are nothing to be alarmed about. As their populations expand in neighboring states, it's only natural the bears become more common here.
