Kentucky Gets New Permanent Education Commissioner

(Frankfort, KY) - Kentucky is welcoming its new permanent education commissioner.

The state Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday for Wayne Lewis to continue leading the department.  He has been interim commissioner since April.

He took over for Stephen Pruitt, who resigned under pressure from the board newly appointed by Governor Matt Bevin.

Lewis had been an advisory member of the board before becoming interim commissioner and also was chair of the state Charter Schools Advisory Council.
