LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The horse racing and media community are mourning the death of John Asher.
The Churchill Downs vice president of racing communications died Monday morning after suffering a heart attack while vacationing with his family in Florida. He was 62.
Asher was a Kentucky Derby historian and one of its greatest ambassadors.
Before joining Churchill Downs in 1997, Asher was an award-winning reporter at WHAS Radio and WAVE Radio.
Asher was a native of Leitchfield, Kentucky and a graduate of WKU. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and two grandchildren.
