Kentucky No Longer Requiring Teachers To Get Master's Degrees

(Frankfort, KY) - Kentucky's teachers will no longer be required to get a master's degree within the first ten years of teaching.

Kentucky's Education Professional Standards Board voted Monday to remove the requirement.

State officials say the change will provide school districts more flexibility and support in recruiting and keeping teachers.

Interim Education Commissioner Dr. Wayne Lewis says the ability for teachers to further their education on their own timeline is a positive step.
