Community Leaders Urge Suicide Prevention Training

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- City officials and health experts are urging people to get suicide prevention training.

They announced a new effort to train people in a technique called "QPR" -- Question, Pursuade, Refer.   It helps identify warning signs, outlines how to talk with someone who may be thinking about suicide and how to pursuade them to seek help.

Free QPR training is being offered throughout the city during National Suicide Prevention Week of September 9-15.

Suicide is more pervasive than homicide in Louisville.  584 people committed suicide from 2011-2015.
