Miniature Horse Winston Dies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Winston, the miniature horse that long resided at the Kentucky Derby Museum, has died.

For 22 years, he greeted race fans and was a companion to visiting Thoroughbreds such as Perfect Drift, Phantom on Tour and Derby winner Mine that Bird.  Winston recently retired to the Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement center in Georgetown.

His sudden death was caused by an infection in his abdominal cavity.  Winston died just two days short of his 25th birthday.
