Road Work And Rising Water Changing Thunder Plans

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- High water and orange barrels forcing some changes to your Thunder Over Louisville routine.

The Ohio River will be about five feet above normal pool stage and that means a portion of the Great Lawn will be underwater Saturday.

The Kentucky Derby Festival says to maximize the number of people who want to use the lawn to see the show, they are prohibiting large tarps and umbrellas.

The high water and faster currents are also prompting LMPD and the Coast Guard to close the river to pleasure boaters on Saturday. Officers will be stationed at all area boat ramps to make sure the ban is enforced.

Getting to the show will present new challenges as LMPD says Main Street between 4th and 7th Streets will be closed starting at Noon Saturday until Thunder is over.

LMPD says they are not aware of any threats against the event and are actively monitoring social media.
