LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Work is ramping up at Churchill Downs ahead of next month’s Kentucky Derby.
Along the front stretch, the sign between the spires was changed to reflect the 144th running of the Derby while all around the spires, two major projects were wrapping up.
At the head of the front stretch, the Starting Gate Suites are nearing completion, adding 35 suites and some new dining areas in time for Derby.
Outside the track, the first phase of a parking expansion will be done for the April 28 opening night. That project adds 50 acres to the track's footprint and will improve entry to the track and add a new bus station for Derby.
Kentucky Derby 144 is Saturday, May 5.
