ESPN President Steps Down

ESPN president and co-chairman of the Disney Media Networks John Skipper is resigning due to a substance addiction problem.  In a statement today, Skipper said he has struggled with substance addiction for many years and decided now is the time to take care of his problem.  He said he and the company have mutually agreed that it was appropriate for him to step down.

Skipper joined ESPN in 1997 as a senior vice president and general manager of ESPN The Magazine.  He has held his current position since 2012.  Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger announced former ESPN President George Bodenheimer will serve as Acting Chair of ESPN until they find a full-time replacement for Skipper.
