LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Rick Pitino's attorney says reports his client was involved in paying a recruit are "fake news."
Attorney Steve Pence says the claims made in the indictment that Christian Dawkins contacted Pitino to arrange payments to recruit Brian Bowen are false.
Speaking to NewsRadio 840 WHAS' Terry Meiners, Pence says the claims are being made by Dawkins alone and there is no evidence to back up his claim.-- Pence says the headlines claiming Pitino was aware are "fake news" and "a lie" and he plans "to do something about it."
As for the fate of Bowen, who remains suspended from the team by the school, Pence says if he is cleared that it would be a petty move by U of L not to reinstate him.
Pence says they are still working on litigation on the money left on Pitino's contract saying "the university chose to ignore it" and that he "intends to enforce the contract."
