LOUISVILLE, Ky -- Puerto Rico remains a disaster area according to a Louisville man who just returned from the hurricane devastated island. Mark Hogg, founder and CEO of WaterStep, led a team of seven volunteers to Puerto Rico earlier this month where they trained people to install water purification kits.
Hogg says in the rural area of the island there is no clean water and no electricity, and even in the cities electric power is sporadic. WaterStep and the Puerto Rico Leadership Council are working to install water purification units in all 78 municipalities.
The water purification units are $4500 and people in 22 areas have been trained to install them. Donations are needed to purchase dozens more units.
