LOUISVILLE, Ky -- History comes to life this weekend at Bowman Field. The Humana Bowman Field Aviation and Military Heritage Festival is Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Up to ten-thousand people are expected to attend the event that will offer tours and rides on vintage aircraft, exhibits and demonstrations from WWI, WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, the Iraq War, and war in Afghanistan.
Visitors can watch vintage newsreels of the era and hear oral history from veterans...there's also a presentation on Women in Aviation. There are also rides available in some of the aircraft for a price. Some of the airplanes on display include a B-25 bomber, the Avenger, helicopters, a DC-3, and others. There is also a presentation on Bowman Field as it nears its 100th birthday.
Veterans get in free, others will pay $10 a person. Proceeds benefit Honor Flight Bluegrass and the Kentucky Historic Aviation Foundation.
