MSD Raises Rates

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Sewer rates are going up.   But not as much as MSD says it needs.

The utility approved a 6.9 percent rate increase, the maximum allowed without approval of the Metro Council.

MSD had initially requested a 20 percent increase, saying it needs the money to upgrade the city's aging sewer systems.

The rate hike, which takes effect August 1st, means the average monthly MSD fees for residential customers will go up $3.03.    Drainage fees will increase 60 cents.
