Bourbon Tariff Threat a Big Issue for Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky  --  President Trump is threatening to place a tariff on imported steel, that has the European Union considering a tariff on a product with deep Kentucky roots.  The E-U says if the president follows through with a tariff on European steel it will impose a tariff on bourbon

Bourbon author Fred Minnick says this threat comes at a time when bourbon is booming around the world  He believes a possible tariff in on bourbon would could cause distillers to back off some expansion plans which total about $1 billion over the next six years.

Minnick adds bourbon would be a tariff target because of its deep heritage in American culture and is a purely American product.  America currently exports about $1 billion in distilled spirits each year.
